AECPS Choir Enthrall Congregation at Christingle, by Mrs Walsh

AECPS choir were asked to perform at the St Phillips Christingle service.
The children enthralled the congregation with their rendition of 'Light Up' by Snow Patrol.
They learnt all about the symbols of the Christingle and Made A Different to everyone at the service as well as raising funds for The Children's Society.
Year 6 Making A Difference for Local People, by Mrs Walsh

Year 6 have coordinated an effort to collect items for the local foodbank. They asked all the children in school to send in items of non perishable food and delivered it to St Phillips Church for people in need.
There were lots of generous donations, many of them seasons treats, that were gratefully received.
Thank you to year 6 and everyone who kindly donated. You really have 'Made a Difference'.
Keep Safe at Christmas with the Safety Ambassadors, by Mrs Walsh

AECPS Safety Ambassadors have started a campaign to keep everyone safe this Christmas. Take a look at our poster that our Safety Ambassadors designed and then shared with their friends in their class assemblies.
Netballers in Friendly Fixtures, by Mrs Walsh

Our netballers were in action again playing in friendly fixtures against Alderley Edge School for Girls.
This was a fantastic opportunity for our teams to gain match experience and the results were all very close.

Year 4 Love Orienteering, by Mrs Walsh

Year 4 have been developing their Geography skills by completing a Children in Need themed orienteering challenge around the school grounds.
They have been nagivating round clues using maps to solve problems. They then had to decipher the riddle to learn about longitude and latitude.
Year 5 Complete Their Swimming Lessons, by Mrs Walsh

Year 5 have been developing their swimming skills in PE.
To celebrate their achievements they enjoyed their last fun swim! They learned lifesaving skills and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of their lessons.

Table Tennis Club in Action, by Mrs Walsh

Year 5 and 6 have really enjoyed their table tennis club, in the mornings, with Miss Hilton this term.
Next term year 3 and 4 will have the chance to learn this new sport or perfect their skills.
Reception Head Off To Waitrose!, by Mrs Walsh

This week the children in Reception ventured out to Waitrose to buy ingredients to make honey biscuits.
The children took a frosty walk through the park, and along London road before arriving at Waitrose to check the lists that they had written last week.
Once they had found all of their items and paid at the till, each child received a chocolate bear as a treat - thanks Waitrose!
We cannot wait to try the biscuits we have been baking today!
AECPS Choir Perform at Alderley Edge Christmas Light Swtich On, by Mrs Walsh

Our talented choir sang a fantastic range of Christmas carols at the Alderley Edge Christmas Light switch on. They performed to a large crowd and entertained their audience with fun and festive songs.

Year 4 Have Been Making Willow Lanterns in DT, by Mrs Walsh

Year 4 have really enjoyed structures topic in our Design and Technology lessons and have created some amazing winter themed lanterns.
We first investigated what shapes would be strongest, then looked at how to strengthen our structures before making a prototype.
We then finally created our final structure out of willow withies.
We can’t wait to parade with them in the Christmas nativity performance.

Year 4 have been enjoying incorporating drama into their English lessons by acting out different scenes from our book to further develop their understanding of how the characters might be feeling.

As the evenings draw in the Environmental Club celebrated by toasting marshmallows and bananas around the campfire!
We all agreed they tasted delicious!!!

Who Is Our Mystery Reader?, by Mrs Walsh

As part of our commitment to reading for pleasure, we have asked for your help to towards this. Children across the school have been lucky enough to have had their first Mystery Readers in school. Each class has been visited by a suprise guest who has read a short extract from their favourite book.

We know all about Fire Safety - do you?, by Mrs Walsh

Year 5 spent their morning with the local fire service who taught us all about fire safety and what to do in the event of a fire. They even got to experience what it would be like in an emergency situation by partaking in a Smoke Tent and dropping low to the ground to get out safely.
AECPS Joined in Interfaith Week to Promote Positive Relationships, by Mrs Walsh

As part of Interfaith Week, Year 5 discussed the importance of engaging with others of different religions or beliefs to promote positive relationships within the wider world and school. They created artwork in class to represent this.
Making a Difference for Children in Need, by Mrs Walsh

Once again we supported Children in Need in style with children making donations to wear their Pudsy outfits or own clothes.
This year we joined in the BearPee Challenge with each class aiming to complete 1000 burpees.
All classes also completed the Children in Need orienteering challenge raising money as well as improving their geographical skills!
Well done to year 1 who were the winners!
Year 5 Design and Make Amazing Bridges in Design Technology, by Mrs Walsh

Year 5 have been very busy, researching, designing and making Bridges for their Design and Technology topic on structures.
They looked into renowned engineer Isambard King Brunel and took inspiration from other bridges around the world.

Year 5 Learn To 'Mind The Gap', by Mrs Walsh

Year 5 spent the morning learning all about railways, their history and how to use them today.
They caught the train from Alderley Edge station to Crewe. They learnt to 'mind the gap', purchase tickets and even about secret underground passages used by royalty to get round Crewe station.
Other rail users were suprised to hear one of our children announce the 10.45 train leaving from platform one on the main speaker system!
Year 1 Craft Club Get Creative, by Mrs Walsh

In Year 1, they have been learning about the festival of Diwali. They now know that the word Diwali means 'rows of lighted lamps'.
They continued thinking about Diwali, in craft club, and made their own 'diva lamps' .

A great result for the year 5 and 6 team who came 3rd overall in their tournament at Wilmslow High School - and they only lost one match!!
Year 3 Are Experts at Orienteering, by Mrs Walsh

Year 3 enjoyed the afternoon map reading and orienteering around the school. They had to work in teams and support each other.
Later back in class they used thier findings to learn how to give 4 figure grid references from a map of our local area. This was linked to Children in Need.
MICRO:BIT Coders are back!, by Mrs Walsh

This week at Coding Club, children from Years 5 and 6 programmed their Micro:bits to become a flashing heart beat!
The children really enjoyed this next challenge and are becoming much more familiar with the software and the process!
Year 6 Are The Engineers of the Future, by Mrs Walsh

As part of the Design and Technology curriculum, year 6 had a task to ‘research, design, make and evaluate a powered toy car.’ They used previous knowledge from science and maths lessons to support them make a product that works.
They also learnt that materials have both functional properties and aesthetic qualities and that materials can be combined and mixed to create more useful characteristics.
They are now more able to explain how mechanical systems such as cams, pulleys and gears create movement and how more complex electrical circuits and components can be used to create functional products.
AECPS Made Lots of Noise About Bullying, by Mrs Walsh

All the children and staff at AECPS are committed to a 'Bully Free Zone'.
This year we launched our Anti Bullying Week by making lots of noise, following the theme of the national Anti-Bullying Week moto, in a special assembly led by Mrs Walsh.
All the classes are having special lessons this week on bullying prevention and trying to develop their understanding of when banter becomes bullying.
Some children even wore odd socks to school to highlight the importance of bullying prevention.
AECPS Remembers, by Mrs Walsh

On Friday 10th November, Mrs Walsh led a special whole school assembly so we could reflect together on the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces, now and in the past, to help keep us all safe.
We thought about the symbol of the poppy and what it means.
On Sunday 11th November, children from across KS2 represented AECPS at the Alderley Edge Armistice service in St Phillip Church's grounds. The had the honour of reading the names of the fallen from Alderley Edge to the rest of the congregation.
