Year 4 "Read All About It!", by Mrs Walsh

Year 4 have really enjoyed being journalists over the last few weeks and are very proud of their completed newspaper reports.
They combined their computing and English lessons to publish their writing so that it was formatted like a real newspaper.
They can’t wait for everyone to ‘Read all about it!’
Year 1 Find Out About Churches in the Local Area, by Mrs Walsh

Year 1 have been comparing the outside appearance of a range of churches. They have discovered that there are similarities and differences.
They then looked at some of the internal features of a church. Altar, pulpit, lectern and font, to name just a few!

PSCO Visits Year 5 and 6, by Mrs Walsh

PCSO Jessica Thornley visited year 5 and 6 to teach the children more about the dangers online and what they can do to keep themselves safe.
PCSO Jessica shared with the children the importance of keeping personal information private, the importance of sharing their worries with a trusted adult and how to use the CEOP Report Abuse button if they come across something that they are worried about.
Safer Internet Day at AECPS, by Mrs Walsh

How to keep safe online is an important part of our school curriculum and is something we learn about on a regular basis. Safer Internet Day is an important day in our school calendar and reminds us to focus on this very important area of safety.
Over the week, the children learnt lots about keeping safe online including what to do if they have a problem, feelings related to it and how their bodies may react to these feelings. They used a power of healing activity to highlight the feelings and responses of their bodies if they experienced something upsetting online. They then listed who they could talk to about these problems and how they would feel after. They revised the SMART rules with the help of the SMART crew, and showed how asking for help or giving advice can relieve worries! All the have shown great understanding and knowledge to help them if they ever have a problem online.
Celebrating 'Mental Health Week by 'CONNECTING!', by Mrs Walsh

AECPS have been taking part in Mental Health Week.
We have been learning about the importance of meaningful connections with people and how that can support our wellbeing.
In our classes, we played ‘Connections Bingo’. We had to write things we enjoyed in our bingo boxes before moving around the room, talking to each other to find out who we had things in common with.
There were lots of surprise shared interests with people that we didn’t know we had before!

Year 5 Join in National STEM event, by Mrs Walsh

The children in Year 5 were lucky enough to take part in a science STEM morning, led by the RAF, all about aeronautical engineering.
They tested their skills as scientists, making sure their investigations were fair and results valid.
They tested their designs to see if adding fuselage affected the length a rocket would fly, and furthermore, whether the angle of launch had any effect as well.
Year 5 had a brilliant morning!
Year 6 Loved Tchoukball, by Mrs Walsh

Tchoukball is a team sport invented in the 1960s taking inspiration from handball, volleyball and Basque pelota.
Year 6 visited Wilmlsow High School to learn this new sport and had great fun developing new skills.

The fantastic AECPS netball team came 2nd in the area competition.
They played brilliantly and came 2nd overall out of 12 schools. They only lost once to the eventual winners.

Do you know about the ancient Mayan culture? Year 5 Do!, by Mrs Walsh

Year 5 had a fantastic day investigating the world of the Ancient Maya
Dr Diane Davies, an archaeologist, specialising on the Maya (a culture from Central America) visited year 5 with her fascinating artefacts and stories of her adventures and work as an archaeologist.
Little is known about the Maya in the UK, year 5 have really been enjoying learning about this amazing culture.
They are now our experts who can share their new knowledge and impress us with their understanding of this historical period.

Members of Year 4 and Year 6 baked and held a bake sale for the children in Year 4 to raise money to buy a new rug for our Chill Out Zone. The cakes were delicious and the fund raiser was a great success!
Mrs Walsh is now going to use the money to buy a new rug.
AECPS Sports Ambassadors attend local conference, by Mrs Walsh

The Year 6 Sports Leaders attended the Macclesfield School Sports Partnership annual conference.
The leaders supported the commitment to ensure all children are physically active for at least one hour per day (not including PE lessons and break times) and came away with some great ideas to try and make our lessons more physically active.

All the children have been learning new topics in history.
Year 1 are learning about schooling 100 years ago.
Year 2 are learning about how Alderley Edge high street has changed.
Year 3 are deciding whether or not they would choose to live in the stone, bronze or iron age.
Year 4 are investigating the Roman invasion of Britain and their legacy
Year 5 have traveled back to the Mayan civilization
Year 6 are comparing crime and punishment through out the ages.
We are developing out abilities to think like historians, learn from artifacts, make comparisons, identify similarities and differences between the eras and draw conclusions.
Y6 Learn to Cycle Safely on the Roads, by Mrs Walsh

Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed taking part and passing their Bikeability Level 2.
Bikeability is the government's national cycle programme. It helps children learn practical skills and understand how to cycle on today's roads. Bikeabilty gives everyone the confidence to cycle and enjoy this skill for life.
Year 5 Experience Art Master Class, by Mrs Walsh

Year 5 have had an art master class with international artist Rob Ward.
Rob visited the children to tell them about his career in art and to teach them how to explore their environment, be creative and develop their painting techniques.
The children explained how much they had learnt and felt very lucky to have had such an amazing opportunity.

They rotated around different sports and had an amazing time developing new skills and having fun!

In groups, they discussed their interpretations of his fabulous abstract art!
They can't wait to explore line and shape in their own artwork!

Year 1 had a great computing session thinking about the importance of following instructions.
They talked about algorithms in their day to day lives and then worked with a partner to give and receive an algorithm. What great fun!
Celebrating Differences in PSHE, by Mrs Walsh

As part of our work in Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) on "Families and Care" the children in Reception have been learning about different types of families.
They looked at lots of different examples from familiar stories and TV characters and then discussed how these families were different from their own.
The children then drew their own family, discussing family members and pets and whether they lived in one house or two and talked about how everybody's family is different!
