Bullying Prevention Week at AECPS, by Mrs Walsh

This week we have been focusing on now we can prevent bullying and reminding ourselves that we have a zero tolerance approach to bullying at our school,

The children all wore off socks to remember that everyone is different and there are ' No Outsiders'.

We have been learning what we should do if we are being bullying and what to do if we are worried about someone else.

Importantly, we have also looked at keeping ourselves in the online world and all about cyber bullying.

AECPS Spectacular Firework Display, by Mrs Walsh

Once again our annual firework display was spectacular!

The event, organised by our wonderful PTA, was full of fun, rides, tasty treats and fabulous fireworks.

We welcomed lots of visitors from the wider Alderley Edge community as well as AECPS children and parents.

Year 2 Are 'Little Champions', by Mrs Walsh

Year 2 loved their PE lesson which was led by Mr Sachro and students from Wilmslow High School.

The children learnt new still and perfected others all linked to athletic events.

It was also great to see some of our past pupils visit and see how their leadership skills have continued to flourish!

Zoo to U in Year 2!, by Mrs Walsh

Year 2 have been learning all about different animal groups.

As a special treat Mrs Salt organised for a zoo to visit the classroom.

The children met lots of interesting creatures and loved meeting 'Oogie Owl' who they have adopted for the year!

Year 5 Venture into the Environmental Area, by Mrs Walsh

As part of a new English topic, Year 5 took a trip into the Environmental Area.

They imagined that they were stranded in a woodland environment with minimal resources and had to find ways to survive!

Lots of the children already knew the 4 survival essentials - food, water, warmth and shelter and all of the children impressed Miss Wallace with their knowledge, ideas and enthusiasm!

5-Star School Lunches at AECPS, by Mrs Walsh

Wow! What a treat we have enjoyed with our new catering provider - Miquill Catering.

The children were very impressed with the quality, taste and choice of food on offer.

The school menu is much more extensive and even commented on it rivalling a 5-Star restaurant!

Year 2 Visit The Lowry to Learn About The Great Artist, by Mrs Walsh

Year 2 had a wonderful visit to The Lowry Art Gallery to learn all about the great work of this man.

They studied his paintings and also used some of his techniques to create their own work.

The children were exceptionally well behaved and we are very proud of all our year 2 children.

Rugby Team in Action, by Mrs Walsh

The AECPS Tag-Rugby team have been in action in a local competition against other schools.

The team played several matches against other schools in a tournament held at Wilmslow High School.

They played brilliantly, won one and drew others.

Well done team!

Year 6 Learning Science in our Environmental Area, by Mrs Walsh

In science lessons, Year 6 have been learning about the classification of living things, including micro-organisms. #

Year 6 visited the environmental area and used their knowledge of classifying living things to create a field guide for the habitat around school.  They explored the habitat, identified the organisms they found and then classified each organism. 

The children were amazed that the local area is home for organisms such as crustaceans, Annelids and Molluscs. 

Learning About The Past Through Art, by Mrs Walsh

Year 2 have been using the art work of LS Lowry to identify similarities and difference between life in the past and today. 

They are looking forward to their visit to the Lowry Art Gallery to find out even more about this significant figure.

Year 3 Experiment in Art with Charcoal, by Mrs Walsh

Year 3 start this half term's art by experimenting with charcoal.  All children enjoyed using the charcoal, in different ways, to make marks of graduated tones.  

AECPS is Proud to Be Awarded PSQM Guilt Award for Outstanding Science, by Mrs Walsh

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the PSQM Guilt Awarded for our exceptionally high quality teaching and learning in science.

The award is given to schools who demonstrate strong leadership and commitment to this important subject and is testament to the hard work of the teachers (led by Miss Burnett) and the children.

We Have a Relaxation Station at Lunchtimes, by Mrs Walsh

Thanks to our PTA and other generous donors we have been able to create a Relaxation Station at lunchtimes.

This is a quiet space where we can relax, play board games, draw and read if we prefer to spend our time on quieter activities.

The space is open to different year groups and the School Council say the children are really enjoying it!

Year 2 Enjoy Using Our Woods To Inspire Art, by Mrs Walsh

Year 2 have been learning about the work of Andy Goldsworthy.

They have been exploring our Environmental Area for inspiration for their own masterpieces in the style of Andy Goldsworthy.

 

Year 2 Are Enjoying Their Gymnastics, by Mrs Walsh

Year 2 have been developing their gymnastic skills with Mrs Lewis.

They have been exploring different shapes they can make with their bodies and creating simple sequences.

They are looking forward to developing their knowledge and skills on the aparataus. 

We've Done It Again - AECPS Get Platinum Award for PE!, by Mrs Walsh

We are delighted to have been awarded the Platinum Award for PE and Sport for the 3rd time running.

This is an amazing achievements and shows AECPS is leading the way in School Sport

Well done to all the team especially the children and Sport Ambassadors led by Mrs Lewis!

Year 3 Travel Back in Time, by Mrs Walsh

Year 3 had a fantastic experience travelling back in time to the Stone Age.

They learnt how to build stone age dwellings, use wattle and daub and light fires.

The children 'wowed' their guides with their amazing knowledge of the Paleolithic period and are real experts!

Congratulations to  Reception who has completed the Summer Reading Challenge at Alderley Edge Library before the summer has even started! One ouf our children is an avid reader and absolutely loves books, if you do too don't forget to get down to the library and join in the book fun too!

Year 6 - Computing Buddies, by Miss Platt

As part of the computing curriculum, Year 6 have been completing a unit of quizzing. They have explored and created a range of different quizzes for different audiences and purposes. Part of the topic involved creating a quiz, game or activity for a Year 1 child. They then shared the games on Purple Mash with their reading buddies in Year 1. Both year groups enjoyed this activity and Year 1 were good at giving some feedback on what was good and any improvements that could be made!

Year 1 Explore Mechanisms, by Miss Platt

During D & T Week, Year 1 enjoyed sharing their own books from home! They have explored and investigated different mechanisms that create movement in 'pop up books', such as levers, sliders and flaps.  They then designed and made their own mechanisms for their moving picture!  Well done Year 1- impressive work! 

Ready...steady...BALES RACE, by Miss Platt

On Friday we watched as every child in school tackled this years PTA bales race. It was great to observe the children's perseverence (especially those that took a tumble!) and also a huge thanks to the older children in school who supported Reception with their first bales race. A huge thanks to all the sponsors for donating and congratulations to Reception class who raised the most! They will enjoy a film and popcorn on Friday as a reward. 

Black Rock Collages, by Miss Platt

Year 1 have been busy tearing, cutting and overlapping a variety of papers to create a collage of 'Black Rock'!  They discussed different ways of arranging and layering the paper to add effect.  They then enjoyed sharing their work with each other!  

How fantastic that they are all unique!  

Reception "WOW" the crowds, by Miss Platt

Reception children performed to a packed out hall today and had the audience laughing, cheering and crying (happy tears of course!) The children were wonderful in their show "The Humungous Carrot" demonstrating great singing, dancing, storytelling and acting. Stars in the making.....
