Parliament Week
Dear Parents
You may be aware that November 6th to November 12th is Parliament Week. As part of this all children in school will be learning about what parliament is and how it works in class. Each class will also be taking part in a class vote to learn more about democracy and how voting works.
On Friday 10th November, we are very lucky in welcoming our local MP Esther McVey to school and our Class Councillors will be meeting with her and asking questions to learn more about the work she does as an MP.
As part of this week, we would also like to encourage you to talk with your child about parliament and democracy and are encouraging children to “Speak Out” about matters or issues important to them by writing a comment or question on any topic, that they would ask or raise in parliament if they were able. Children will come home with a speech bubble for them to record this on to return to school. Parents can of course scribe for younger children, as we would like children of all ages to get involved. Children can return their ideas to the box in the main building before Thursday 9th November.
We will be sharing the video below with the children as a helpful introduction to this topic and so have provided it for your information.
